Watertown's baseball will be 'rapidly' improving during the offseason.

Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds Field is the home of the Watertown Rapids. It will see new lighting fixtures, new bleachers, roof repairs, locker room upgrades and a new audio system.

The project will be funded through a $125,000 state grant.

Team owners say it's been more than two decades since improvements were made to the field. They are looking forward to the changes.

"The city staff has done a good job at keeping the playing surface in good shape but this is an aging building and it needs some care," said Watertown Rapids Co-Owner Mike Schell.

Construction is expected to be complete in time for the 2019 season.
