ROME, N.Y. -- Work to revitalize more than 100 acres of abandoned property in Rome continues.

The former Woodhaven Park housed military families working at the former Griffiss Air Force Base.

It's been abandoned for several years, but there's a vision for the now city-owned property.

Rome Mayor Jackie Izzo said the master plan includes recreation, commercial, residential and senior-assisted housing, as well as extended-stay living spaces.

She said the demolition phase is complete and things are moving forward.

"We feel as though we have a site now that is ready for developers. We've shown it several times to some different developers that have been looking at Rome. So we are constantly marketing that property and listening to feedback," said Izzo.

Mayor Izzo said a public hearing on the Master Plan will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
