With just one more week to go in August, this weekend was a big one for back-to-school shoppers.

Notebooks, bookbags and lunch boxes were just some of the items flew off the shelves at Target.

Colleges start classes again in a week, while local school kids head back after Labor Day.

Parents say they are trying to rush out and complete those shopping lists in time for the big day.

"As soon as you get your list, get out and get it. There are some teachers that have very specific requests and things run out, they run out fast. And definitely look around, sometimes you find deals in places where you wouldn't think you would find a deal," said shopper Mary Ellen Dodge.

The National Retail Federation estimates that total back to school spending for kids in kindergarten through 12th grade and college combined, will reach $82.8 billion.
