DEWITT, N.Y. -- The Jamesville community is mourning the loss of a teen killed in a crash, less than two months after graduation.

It happened on Jamesville Road in the town of DeWitt a little after 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.

State police say 18-year-old Blake Lucas failed to stop at a stop sign, hit a pole and then the DeWitt Community library.

By Thursday morning, a tarp covered the section of stone wall that was damaged, and you could still see the damaged utility pole.

We're told there were no signs of alcohol or drug use. The crash is still under investigation.

The library will remain closed through the weekend.

Friends we spoke with remember Lucas as someone who took care of others, even if he didn't know them.

They called him the leader of the group, and father-like to their mini family.

"It's rough knowing that I won't see that in the world," said Colin Palladino, Lucas' friend. "Everything that he brought with him was unique compared to everyone else and knowing I won't be able to see that again, it's devastating."

Lucas graduated from Jamesville-DeWitt High School in June. He was hoping to go to school at Binghamton University, to become a scientist.

The district is making counselors available to help students.
