NORTH CAROLINA – If these predictions are anything to go by, North Carolina is in store for a warmer, drier winter.

  • The Old Farmer's Almanac lists predictions for this winter.
  • Most of North Carolina is predicted to have a "much warmer" winter.
  • Western North Carolina will have above-normal precipitation.

According to The Old Farmer’s 2019 Almanac, winter for the majority of North Carolina (Southeast region) will be “much warmer” and “slightly drier” than normal. The almanac also states that snowfall chances will be below-normal and the coldest times of the season will be mid-December, mid-to-late January and mid-to-late February. It states that the best chances for snow will occur in early-to-mid December and mid-March.

As for western North Carolina and a portion of the Triad (Appalachians region), the almanac says winter will also be warmer than normal, but will have above-normal precipitation and near-to or below-normal snowfall. It states that the coldest periods will be mid-to-late December, early and late January and early and mid-February, with the snowiest periods in mid-December, early January and early February.

The forecasts from The Old Farmer's Almanac are regional-specific and not based by city.
