WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Muppets and human cast members of Sesame Street will soon be getting a very special visitor with North Carolina ties.

Bitty of Bitty & Beau’s Coffee will be on the legendary PBS children’s show.

  • Bitty & Beau's is a coffee shop run by 40 employees with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
  • The shop is named after the owners' two youngest children, Bitty and Beau, who have Down syndrome.
  • The mission of Bitty & Beau's is to advocate for the value, inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Bitty was invited after Sherrie Westin, the President of Global Impact and Philanthropy for Sesame Workshop, visited the shop in Wilmington over the weekend.

The first Bitty & Beau’s location opened in Wilmington in 2016 and focuses on employing people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

A second location in Charleston opened earlier this year. A third is planned for Savannah, Georgia.

Bitty & Beau's has made national headlines including last year when its founder, Amy Wright, was named CNN's 2017 "Hero of the Year."
