UTICA, N.Y. -- Congresswoman Claudia Tenney took a tour of the Utica Fire Department Engine Seven in Utica on Friday.

They talked about different issues the fire department is facing with much of the discussion focusing on responding to drug overdoses.

The Fire Captain hopes Tenney can help address the issue on the federal level.

The department often sees the same people overdosing.

"We want to do something to help them, we really do but it's so frustrating that sometimes there's just nothing you can do and that's really where she comes in with legislation with funding for the program, funding for manpower," said Utica Fire Department EMS Director Philip Taurisano.

"What these firefighters go through and these EMS personnel is really something we will take back to Washington and make sure we provide them with the resources. It's a huge problem for our community," said Congresswoman Tenney.

The Utica Fire Department has 123 members.
