ROME, N.Y. – Neighbors are reacting to the fire in Rome that killed three children, with many saying they wish they could have done something to help.

"It is more so horrifying when you know the kids, you just talked to the kids a couple hours ago and you come outside and their house is on fire. It's dramatic. It's dramatic," Rome resident Lawrenso Williams said.

Three young lives were lost, and a family and community were forever changed.

"It was saddening because there was nothing I could do, myself, personally. I wish I could've honestly went in and tried but there was nothing left to the trailer by the time I was actually up and over there," said Rome resident Joshua Morgan.

Just hours after the fire, those who knew the victims reflected on life with them just hours before.

"In any essence it's hard when you see the loss of life of children. But when you know them, when you hold them, and when you grab them, when you wrestle with them, you know when they come in the house to feed them cookies and stuff like that, they're just here. They're just here. Just here. Just here," said Williams. "And just like that, poof, they're gone."

Tankers were called in, but the situation has brought up an issue that has been on the minds of some living in the park: there are no fire hydrants.

"If anything, that should be, more so with the loss of the children, that should be brought up," said Williams.

"We need something here," Morgan said. "It makes us all afraid to live in trailers."
