A special needs baseball team has more to cheer for than just home runs.

The Challengers team is for children with developmental disorders. Organizers say when players are on the field, their everyday challenges melt away.

The deputies who came out for a game learn how to best support people in the community with special needs.

"They'll get to meet them on the field in a no pressure situation,” said Challenger Baseball Director Dee Perkins. “They'll learn that policemen are people to go to when you have a question or when you need help. They're wonderful people who serve our community."

This is the second year the sheriff’s office came out to play with the team.
