YORKVILLE, N.Y. -- A Yorkville man is arrested and charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing his brother.

State Police say 37-year old John Ferguson stabbed his brother 42-year-old Daryl Ferguson with a knife multiple times in their home in Yorkville at 10 Jones Place.

Responders found Daryl in the bedroom.

They were called to the scene shortly before 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

A State Police spokesperson said the brothers lived with their mother.

He said she contacted the authorities.

"She was awoken by the fighting going on within the residence, the altercation. She immediately contacted 911. At that point, I believe she thought it was an assault which is why it originally went out as an assault," said New York State Police Trooper Jack Keller.

Neighbors told Spectrum News that it's a quiet neighborhood so this is a "shock".

John Ferguson is charged with one-count of second-degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing.
