A Port Byron man is charged with making a terroristic threat after a standoff with police.

Deputies say 36-year-old Joseph Wilmarth is accused of posting a comment on Facebook saying he was going to shoot a family court judge.

State police responded by going to Wilmarth's home on Fuller Road in Port Byron Friday to investigate.

When they arrived, he allegedly was holding a rifle and barricaded himself inside a garage. The area was quickly evacuated, as a precaution, and after several hours the standoff eventually came to a peaceful end.

Wilmarth surrendered after about three hours. He's due back in court next month.
