Authorities have released new details about the death of State Trooper Nicholas Clark.

The 29-year-old was shot Monday morning outside a town of Erwin home, where a man was reportedly suicidal.

Trooper Clark was one of several law enforcement officers that set up a perimeter around the home as negotiators tried to contact Steven Kiley. State Police say shots rang out from within the home after several hours without communication.

Trooper Clark was struck and killed. Investigators tell us he was in position next to the home's garage at the time.

It is not clear if police returned fire, but they say Kiley was later found dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside the home.

State Police are working with the Steuben County Sheriff's Office and the district attorney around to clock on the investigation.

Authorities were also seen at a home on Elizabeth Street in Elmira on Tuesday afternoon. Officials have confirmed that it is connected to their investigation.
