It has been 9 months since Hurricane Maria devastated parts of Puerto Rico. And this summer, New York college students are lending a hand to those impacted.
SUNY and CUNY students, including 16 from SUNY Oswego, spent the past two weeks in San Juan.
They worked together to clean, restore and rebuild homes in the area.
The students, along with skilled construction workers went as part of the NY Stands with Puerto Rico Recovery and Building Initiative.
They returned home this weekend, and the next batch of students left upon their arrival.
Five groups in all will make the trip throughout the summer to earn college credit. In all, about 500 people will be taking part in the effort.
