ROME, N.Y. -- Three-alleged incidents at Rome's John E. Joy Elementary School have two educators facing charges, which they are pleading not guilty to.

30-year-old Ashley Rasbach and 47-year-old Maria Fountain were arrested last week.

The allegations stem from events alleged to happened in April to three students under the age of 10.

In court documents, Rasbach is accused of picking up a student by her arms before dropping her about a foot onto the carpet, and squeezing students behind a classroom door.

In a supporting deposition, a teacher's assistant at the school reports, "The students began to cry and Ashley told them it didn't hurt that bad."

She is also accused of spraying a student with a water bottle as well as grabbing a student by her hair.

Teacher's assistant, Maria Fountain, allegedly grabbed a student by her arms, slammed them to a table and said, "There's more where that came from," as the girl cried.

The other teacher's assistant also reports that Fountain had several interactions consisting of verbal abuse, and quotes Fountain as saying, "I thought on your first day here you were going to be a good boy and not a big baby," The assistant alleges Fountain also told a student she was going to punch them in the nose.

Parents of each of the three-students gave supporting depositions saying school staff did not have permission to have that kind of physical contact with their kids.

Rasbach and Fountain declined to comment.

Rasbach and Fountain are both charged with child endangerment and harassment. They will be back in court in August.

Rome's Superintendent of schools previously said both educators are on leave, and the district will take steps to both respect the rights of the educators, and ensure the safety of students.
