Voters have made their voices heard in the 24th Congressional District, and they overwhelmingly sided with the locally-backed candidate. Dana Balter came away as the winner in the 24th Congressional District's Democratic primary on Tuesday.

Balter's team declared victory as she received 62.5 percent of the votes. Her team celebrated at a watch party at BowlMor Lanes in East Syracuse.

Balter was the candidate backed by all the county Democratic committees. She held off a challenge by Juanita Perez Williams, who had the support of the national party.

"Our supporters and volunteers, and the hundreds and thousands more like you across this district, you are what makes this campaign go," said Balter in a speech after declaring victory. "You are tireless. It is from you that I draw the inspiration to get up and do this every day."

She will face two-term Republican incumbent John Katko in November's general election.
