The rain didn't keep people away from Saturday's Ride for the Rescue at Long Branch Park in Liverpool.

More than 600 walkers, runners, and cyclists participated in the one of the Rescue Mission's largest fundraising events.

Proceeds are estimated to help make 70,000 meals available to those in need.

Organizers say the weather served as a reminder of the struggles homeless people face.

"You know the people that we serve everyday they don't have places to go into so for our bike riders and runners they're on their bike and running for a short period of time and then they can go home so this is kind of a great way for people to get experience of what our clients are going through every day," said Rescue Mission Director of Special Events Gina Rapasadi.

After the events, all participants got to enjoy a lunch from the Rescue Mission.
