As travelers across the country take summer trips, the TSA has tips for fliers.

The TSA is expecting 243 million people to travel through their checkpoints this summer. One of the best pieces of advice they can give is to show up early.

They urge passengers to arrive at least 90 minutes before departure. Before you get to the checkpoint, have your boarding pass and ID ready. Once you're past the podium, remove your shoes and electronics larger than a cell phone, and empty your pockets.

Liquids of 3.4 ounces or fewer should be taken out of your carry-on and put in a clear bag. And don't bring prohibited items.

“Our role and responsibility is to direct the threat and make certain that the traveling public gets to their destination safely and on time and what we ask them to do, the public, is to understand and recognize that they need to avoid packing prohibited items that will be discovered at the check point through the screening process and then unfortunately cause a delay,” said TSA Upstate NY Federal Security Director Bart Johnson.

Now with renovations going on at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, make sure you look closely at the signage driving into the airport so you don't get lost. The renovations should be completed by the fall.

TSA pre-checked passengers may have different guidelines to follow.
