The city of Utica's temporary fire chief is stepping down.
John Kelly took over as fire chief nearly a year ago when Chief Russell Brooks was placed on administrative leave.
Mayor Robert Palmieri announced that Kelly turned in his resignation last Friday, effective July 1st. He offered no details.
Earlier today, Councilwoman Samantha Colosimo-Testa sent an open letter addressed to the mayor. She refers to an investigation into Kelly during the last several months.
While she doesn't mention specifics, she called out the administration's zero tolerance policy for sexual harassment claims.
Radio station WIBX has reported that Kelly allegedly sent inappropriate text messages to a prospective recruit.
Mayor Palmieri said he is exploring the possibility of appointing a new temporary chief until a permanent chief can be chosen.
