The Herkimer Diamond Mines are celebrating a fresh start. Owners cut the ribbon on their new facilities Friday.

The mine's main building was destroyed in a fire back in October. Miner's Village was built to replace what they lost.

It includes a Village Hall, a canteen and a trading post.

The next phase of the project will finish construction on a school house, called the Rock Hound Academy.

"We knew that in order to be successful, we needed to build something that was extraordinary. We needed to build something that no one else had in New York State. And something that people could really learn from and benefit from and have a edu-tainment kind of focus that when they walked away they would say wow, we want to go back," said Renee Shevat, owner of the Herkimer Diamond Mines.

Phase three of the project includes the construction of a reclaimed barn. It will be a venue for weddings, STEM camps and other events.

The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
