The Syracuse Police Department is welcoming a few four-legged officers to the force.

A graduation ceremony was held for six Police canines and their human partners Friday.

They completed nine weeks of training at the Patrol and Tracking Canine School.

The teams learned obedience, tracking, how to search buildings and take down suspects.

Officer Victoria Losurdo and her partner “Dome” were given the Sergeant Rod Dalton Award for Outstanding Performance.

"I think it's the coolest job in the world and I think having a dog as a partner, what could be better?” said Losurdo. “And I've always been intrigued by what they can do. It's not just running after bad guys. They have so many things that they learn and their capabilities are beyond just that."

This year’s graduating class included the department’s first canine officer specializing in gun detection.
