Sometimes the small things we take for granted, can have a pretty big impact on our safety.

Friday, Syracuse's Division of Code Enforcement hosted its first "Healthy Housing 101."

Department members guided tours through Land Bank homes to point out common code violations.

Resource providers such as social workers, therapists and psychologists took part in the event.

Code inspectors say the tour will help providers identify issues when conducting home visits.

"We want to be protective of the residents. We want to make sure that we are actually making homes healthier and safer in the city of Syracuse and that's why we had the event today," said Adria Finch, City of Syracuse Director of Innovation.

It's the first of many "Healthy Housing 101" events.

The next one will target property owners.
