SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Wet weather across the country this Spring put a damper on Major League Baseball attendance numbers.

Last month, reports indicated the league was on its way to its lowest average attendance in 15 years.

However, the minor league Syracuse Chiefs are not seeing the same trend.

The Chiefs are up by about 14,000 in overall attendance compared to last year after catching some good weather for more than 30 home games this season.

General Manager Jason Smorol says promotions also have helped lure fans to the park.

"They come out to cheer on the Chiefs. Dollar Thursday, fireworks every Friday, family Sundays where the kids eat free and they run the bases after the game has been a real boon for us. Fans really like that," said Smorol.

Smorol said the Chiefs have seen an increase in attendance numbers in each of the past four seasons.
