SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse Police Department is rolling out an additional 100 body cameras to their officers this summer and they're looking for public input.

The department currently only has 16 body cameras in use, but they've been given a free one-year trial by the company AXON.

Members say this expansion, which is set to happen this summer, will help investigators get a more accurate look at what really happens, out during calls.

Community meetings to discuss the cameras are being held Wednesday and Thursday nights at 7 p.m.

The community will also learn more about the departments body cam policy, like when and how the cameras are used and see a demonstration of the technology.

The cost to keep the cameras past this one year is around $165,000 annually.

If you want to take a closer look you can do so at Tech Central Wednesday, or Central Library on Thursday.
