Concern is growing in the Mohawk Valley about the future of hundreds of jobs at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park in Rome. Last week, we learned Premier Aviation will close. Now, a local assemblyman and congressional candidate says Defense Finance and Accounting Services could see job cuts under a federal bill, but Congresswoman Claudia Tenney tells Melissa Krull that's not the case in the video above.

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- There are mounting concerns about the future of the Defense Finance and Accounting Service in Rome.

A union representative for DFAS workers joined Assemblyman and congressional candidate Anthony Brindisi on Wednesday.

They said proposed cuts in the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act could eventually lead to more than 200-jobs being lost.

However, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney says that's not true.

She says an amendment to the bill, which she co-sponsored, adds a provision that would prevent the Department of Defense from eliminating jobs.

"What this amendment does is say, 'Ok administrator, we want you to be efficient but here is language that says you cannot cut the DFAS workforce,' plain and simple. So we're actually saving the DFAS workforce," Tenney said.

"The problem that we have is that amendment is in a different section of the bill, doesn't address the 25-percent cuts that are still within the Defense Authorization Act," said Brindisi.

Senators Charles Schumer and Kirstin Gillibrand also issued statements supporting the workers at DFAS.
