There's a hidden gem in the City of Rome; a piece of history dating back to the mid-1700s.

On Saturday, local historians celebrated Fort Bull Day. The event was hosted by the Rome Historical Society and the Fort Bull Research Group.

In addition to several lectures about the fort's historical significance, people were taken on a tour of the site.

"What we'll see today on the tour are the actual remains of a French and Indian War fort from 1756 and the fact that it's still there is kind of amazing. It's just like it was back 262 years ago," said John Carmody, Secretary of the Fort Bull Research Group.

The site is located behind the old Erie Canal Village. It is not accessible to the public, unless escorted.

All of the proceeds raised from the event, go toward the preservation and maintenance of the Fort Bull site.
