Many gathered Tuesday to honor local officers who were killed in the line of duty.

Members of the Syracuse Police Department, local officials, and the community paying tribute to 11 lives cut short.

Police Chief Frank Fowler said it's an important time of reflection, and not just to remember those who they have lost.

"To remind ourselves of what it is that we need to be prepared to do in each and every day as we go out and do our job to protect our citizens,” said Fowler.

The ceremony falls in line with National Police Week.
