SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse University's largest class yet has graduated.

The college held its 164th commencement Sunday, awarding degrees to more than 6,500 students, which includes candidates for degrees and the undergraduate and graduate levels.

SU also awarded three honorable degrees, including one to Katherine Switzer, an SU alumna who was the first woman to enter and run the Boston Marathon in 1967.

She also delivered the keynote address.

"Sometimes the flash moments in your life, the least likely people of coincidence that will happen in your life can change the course of it and how if you can recognize those, you can be ready for them and act on them. Not only to change your own life, but perhaps more importantly to change your community or even the world,” she said.

Switzer now has a sports marketing career and is an activist. She still runs marathons.
