It's all about helping others while gaining some hands on experience.

This weekend marks the 8th annual National Women Build Weekend around the Fingerlakes.

It gives people the chance to learn about power tools and masonry from women contractors and professionals. More than a hundred volunteers took part in Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins and Cortland Counties training program Saturday. Their goal is to finish the interior and exterior walls of a future forever home.

“We've gathered over 120 women together. They're all volunteering half of the weekend is kind of a training activity so we do power tool training and carpentry training and then in the process we're building a set of wall panels for a Habitat Home so we're framing a house essentially as we learn construction skills and carpentry skills," said Shannon MacCarrick, Director for TCHFH.
