SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse police have made an arrest in the city's most recent homicide, but they say there may have been more than one person involved.

Charles Nichols, 37, was found shot in the chest, Monday morning.  His body was spotted behind a vacant home, by someone walking on the 100 block of Oberst Street.

Tuesday, police arrested 35-year-old Vladimir Brown of Syracuse, charging him with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police Chief Frank Fowler says the two knew each other, but he would not elaborate on the relationship, because of the ongoing investigation.

Fowler says police believe there are other witnesses out there, but much like other cases it comes down to the public's cooperation.

"We know for an absolute fact, no question about it that someone out there right now knows information that we need to solve these most recent homicides. In fact, every homicide that is open, there is someone out there in our city that has information.  And it's just what we need in order to tip the scale where we can bring those responsible to justice," he said.

This was the ninth homicide of the year. Out of the nine, two remain unsolved.

Police ask anyone with information about the Oberst Street homicide, or any other ongoing investigations, to reach out to detectives at 315-442-5222 or using the SPD Tips App.
