FAYETTEVILLE, N.Y. -- The 2018 World Ultra Trail Championships are being held in Spain this weekend and a Central New York native will be competing in the field.

Chris Raulli, who resides in Fayetteville, is one of six Americans representing team USA at this year's championships.

Despite working full-time, Raulli often puts in 100 to 120 miles a week and trains locally at Green Lakes State park.

Raulli won the US 50 mile trail championships, qualifying for this year's world championship.

"I'm extremely happy to represent team USA and we have good chance of getting a medal -- so I hope. There's an individual aspect to it too where I can medal possibly myself and get top three. I think we have a great chance and strong team to be in one of those podium spots so I look forward to seeing how it all plays out,” he said.

Raulli left for Spain this morning, where he will be joined by his family.

The race is set to go off on Saturday.
