NEW WOODSTOCK, N.Y. -- Dairy production is one of the biggest industries in Upstate New York.

However, some local farmers say they're facing an uphill battle.

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney spoke with about two-dozen farmers during a town hall style event at Holmes Dairy Farm on Wednesday.

Farmers discussed the cost of milk, the misleading uses of the word, labor issues, and the need to promote whole milk.

They say they're paying more for what they need, while prices for consumers are dropping, and that's making it hard for them to keep up.

"Well as a business, anytime you have a low sale price obviously you gotta cut back on a lot of the expenses that you would like to normally, including buying new equipment, but right now it's getting below a break even point, which staying in business is very difficult," said Joe DiNitto of DiNietto Farms LLC in Marcy.

Some farmers also believe more marketing should be done to promote the state's agriculture.
