It’s a call Gloversville Police say they respond to more than a dozen times each day: a report of disorderly conduct was going normally on Wednesday night, until the responding officer was hit by a passing pickup truck.

"He was in the process of receiving a radio transmission, and that’s what you see on video," said Gloversville Police Lt. Brad Schaffer, "and I think that that’s partially the reason he saw that vehicle coming towards him."

Officers ran to their patrol cars to chase after the suspect. The truck got away and wasn't located until Thursday morning.

Police say 71-year-old Robert Bulger was behind the wheel when the car struck officer Michael Quattrocchi. Court documents show Bulger admitted to consuming alcohol before driving, realizing he hit something and failing to stop.

Bulger was visibly shocked when bail was set at $50,000.

"The officers are certainly not expecting to encounter this kind of situation, but it’s inherent to what the job is, the danger," Schaffer said.

Bulger faces charges of reckless endangerment, assault and leaving the scene of a personal injury automobile accident. We’re told the officer is going to be OK.
