Leaders with ACR Health and the Rescue Mission Alliance are teaming up to create an LGBTQ Runaway and Homeless Center in Syracuse for youth.

When it comes to homeless youth across the country, staff with ACR Health says forty percent identify as part of the LGBT community.

Once completed, the shelter will have ten beds.

A location for the shelter is still being determined.

Staff with the Q Center say it's about creating a safe space.

"A lot of the people that I get at 18 have already... might be HIV positive, have encountered abuse, so we're trying to get to that before that kind of stuff happens," said Q Center Youth Housing Case Manager Tyler Gilyard.

The project is expected to be finished by 2019.
