SYRACUSE, N.Y. --Registering to be an organ donor may eventually help save someone's life.

April is recognized as National Donate Life Month and a group of individuals were honored Wednesday at Upstate University Hospital.

Mike DeMaintenon is a fifth grade teacher in Canastota and one of his kidney's was functioning at just 10 percent.

After he posted his need for a kidney on a Facebook, a college friend Jessica Green of Rochester saw the post and decided to help.

"It's hard to express enough gratitude," said DeMaintenon. "You drop a pencil on the floor and someone picks it up for you, you say thank you, if someone donates an organ you say thank you but the thank you's aren't equal.  I can't possibly put enough emphasis onto the humility I feel and the gratefulness I feel towards her."

Green said she always wanted to be an organ donor and when this opportunity came about she knew she had to help.
