Three Oneida County towns have signed an agreement to offer crucial support to their local ambulance corps.

Monday evening, leaders from the towns of Trenton, Remsen and Steuben signed a contract that increases their financial contributions to the Prospect Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The deal will also begin the process of creating an EMS district in the area.

Ambulance Corps leaders say their current financial situation was not sustainable, but this agreement gives them hope for a long future. This plan has been in the works for more than two years.

"One of the biggest reasons I took on this task was because I wanted an ambulance in my community for my friends, for my family, for my neighbors. And this is a huge step towards that in keeping it there, so tonight's a very good night," said Prospect President Scott Kahl.

As part of the agreement, the ambulance corps will change its name. Representatives from the three towns will sit on the agency's board of directors. Leaders hope to move their headquarters to a central location.
