We're learning more about the objections filed against the petitions of Democrat Juanita Perez Williams. She's running for the Democratic nomination in the 24th Congressional District race.

The objection claims that 2,400 petition signatures are improper or invalid. It claims that paid canvassers that were not eligible to pass petitions and racked up signatures from signers that were not registered Democrats or not registered to vote in New York State.

If the challenge is upheld, Perez Williams would be short of the 1,250 valid petition signatures needed to appear on the primary ballot.

She is the preferred candidate of the Democratic National Committee in Washington. That goes against local Democrats from Oswego, Onondaga, Cayuga and Wayne counties, who backed Dana Balter. Perez Williams lost the Syracuse mayoral election last November in a largely Democratic city.

One of the 24th District candidates will face off against incumbent John Katko this fall. Former Democratic candidate Bill Bass is planning to run on the Independent line.
