UTICA, N.Y. -- A plea deal is on the table for the Utica College threat suspect. The offer is 10 years in state prison.

Fahrudin Omerovic is charged with two counts of making a terroristic threat for the March 5 incident that sparked a campus-wide lockdown.

The 23-year-old was arraigned in Oneida County Court on Friday and pleaded not guilty.

His attorney said Omerovic considered the threats to be a prank. The lawyer said the plea deal that is on the table would require the two charges to run consecutively, putting Omerovic in prison for 10 years.

The offer would also take care of unrelated charges of second-degree identity theft and petit larceny.

"We knew that it was not gonna be a good offer, that it was gonna involve state prison for many years. But my question remains: can justice be served without ruining this young man's life? He understands there needs to be a consequence. What should that be? What's the just consequence? And that's what I'm trying to achieve for my client," said John Raspante, the attorney representing Fahrudin Omerovic.

Omerovic's attorney said he'll be asking for a pre-plea investigation because the actions were inconsistent with Omerovic's character.
