DEWITT, NY --Police are advising parents to talk to their kids about safety and staying away from strangers.

The warning comes after two seperate incidents involving children in the past month.

Back on March 22nd, state police said a strange man approached a girl on 7th North Street in Salina and asked her if she wanted a ride.

The man is described as a white male with short hair and a tattoo and was driving a Nissan Versa.

In an unrelated incident, Dewitt Police said a 12-year-old boy was walking home Tuesday afternoon when a 4-door gray sedan approached him near Frederick Street and North Highland Ave.

The driver, an older man with freckles, told the boy he needed help looking for his dog.

The boy told the driver he had to go and at that point the suspect reached out to try to shake the boys hand, but the boy pulled away.

Police said its never a bad time for parents to talk to their kids.

"Stranger danger.  Make sure that your kids know, not to go up to a vehicle that they're not familiar with.  If somebody approaches them and they're not familiar with them, make sure that they know, no I don't want to talk to you," said Dewitt Police Department Investigator Lucas Byron.

State police are looking for more information regarding the Salina incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call them at 315-366-6000.
