For a larger than life personality, a large venue was needed for people to pay their respects to fallen Whitesboro Police Officer Kevin Crossley. There was a big turnout at the Adirondack Bank Center on Tuesday night. The officer died last week after a crash with a pickup truck. Melissa Krull talked to some of the people honoring his life of service.

UTICA, N.Y. -- Calling hours for fallen Whitesboro Police Officer Kevin Crossley were held on Tuesday at the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. "I don't think it could have been held anywhere else, looking at the size of the crowd, and so on that have come out to pay their respects to this man," said Borden Smith of Whitesboro. He used to work with Crossley at the Whitesboro Central School District.

Some of Officer Kevin Crossley's favorite things were at his calling hours, including the playing of some of his favorite songs.

"It's exciting to hear that it's dedicated to him and all these people showed up for him," said Raymond Scaramuzzino of New York Mills who knew Crossley.

"He was always a happy-go-lucky-type fella, friendly, as I remember him," Smith said.

Hundreds of law enforcement members came to pay their respects to Officer Crossley, and Jack Keller from the State Police said it's important for family, friends, and fellow officers to know they have support.

"We know that after, in the few weeks following these funeral services, they're going to need the moral support, and we will be there and we wil have the ability to give it," Keller said.

Crossley previously served as Captain with the Whitesboro Fire Department, and other departments came to pay respects to their brother.

"Just great to see all the local fire departments come down here, show their commraderie toward Kevin Crossley," Ken Holmes, the Past Chief of the Westmoreland Fire Department said. "Very good turnout, very very happy."

Officer Crossley's funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday with the police processional.
