SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The case against a Syracuse man, who allegedly burnt down his house with his family inside, is now going to a grand jury.

Charles Dubois was not in city court Wednesday, but lawyers met with a judge and decided to move the case forward.

The 20-year-old is facing four counts of second-degree murder, one for each family member who died in Thursday's fire at their Fitch Street home.

Two siblings, a nephew and his mother were rescued by firefighters, but later died from their injuries. Two firefighters were also hurt, but were released from the hospital on the day of the fire.

A grand jury will have to consider arson and assault charges, in addition to the four counts of murder.

Members of Dubois' family were in court and spoke still conflicted with emotions.

“He's a monster, that's all I've got to say, he's a monster. He had no right doing this to our family. But he was our backbone. He was there to help everybody out. He would take the shirt off his back and help everybody,” said Christine Sardella, Charles Dubois' sister.

She also said that her brother had a history of mental health issues, and had been in emergency psychiatric care as recently as two weeks ago.

Lawyers say they plan to bring in a psychiatrist, among other experts as the criminal case moves forward.

In the meantime, funeral arrangements are being finalized for the victims. Services are scheduled to take place this Saturday at St.Lucy’s Church in Syracuse.
