COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. -- The Otsego County Sheriff is recusing himself from an investigation involving his son.

According to a Public Safety and Legal Affairs Committee report, a sergeant at the Otsego County jail made threatening statements in front of a co-worker. He allegedly claimed he was going to bring a duffle bag of guns to work and shoot employees, commit suicide and also shoot up two elementary schools.

The sergeant, Ros Devlin, is the Sheriff's son.

Wednesday, the county board passed a resolution allowing the Sheriff to turn over his authority.

Otsego County Board Chair David Bliss will oversee the investigation.

"Let's put it this way, different leadership was in last year, this probably would have happened a lot sooner, but again there was trust issues, problems, and I believe Mr. Bliss will make decisions based on facts," said Otsego County Sheriff Richard Devlin, Jr.

"We've looked at all the facts already but now we just want to review and make sure we're on solid ground moving forward," said Otsego County Board Chair David Bliss.

Bliss said after the review, he'll talk with their attorneys and make a final determination about what course of action to take. He said he could order a mental health exam.
