NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- Some good news for the New Hartford Central School District.

Area lawmakers announced they're receiving some state funding in light of a $900,000 budget gap.

They reiterated the gap was not a result of a spending issue at the school, rather, it hasn't been receiving what it needs to to keep up.

A news release read, "As in recent years, budget development was shaped by a culmination of major financial factors, including the impacts of New York State's Gap Elimination Adjustment, limited Foundation Aid, and minimal mandate relief. With more than $21 million in lost Foundation Aid over the past decade, and recent tax certiorari refunds of $6.1 million, it was important for the district to work with state leaders and education policy makers to help restore lost aid."

The district is now getting a Foundation Aid increase of more than $400,000, as well as a one-time additional $300,000.

The superintendent says there should be no program cuts or lay-offs from this budget. Three-employees were laid off, but that he said that was due to enrollment.

"We have motivated students, highly motivated students. We have engaged parents in a very supportive community. New Hartford Schools is a prideful factor for our community and we're appreciative that we're able to continue to provide the level of services that we can for our children," said New Hartford Superintendent of Schools Robert Nole.

The budget does include a 2.9% tax increase.

A budget hearing is scheduled for May 7.
