Fort Drum is hoping to win a major expansion in the coming months.

The post is one of three contenders for a new missile defense site.

Congresswomen Elise Stefanik talked about her top priorities for the post while the Secretary of the Army visited the post this week.

She wants to upgrade the infrastructure on Fort Drum, including the railhead.

Stefanik also talked about the missile defense site proposal.

She says the North Country is a viable option.

"Fort Drum is uniquely positioned in terms of the work force and installation capabilities and technical capabilities in terms of protecting the entire continental U.S.,” said Stefanik.

Once the Missile Defense Agency releases a review later in the spring, it will have 60 days to decide which location will become the missile site.
