It's budget season which means districts across the region are talking about how to work with what money they have. In the Fulton City School District, the situation is a little more contentious than most.

A special meeting was held Wednesday night because the district's board of education is trying to figure out how to fill a $2.5 million gap.

According to the superintendent, that gap is the district's worst case scenario. They anticipate that gap to change once they know the state aid they'll receive and make changes to their budget.  Some of the options include increasing the property tax cap to 2.02 percent. Potential other budget options include possibly laying-off five people in the district.

The superintendent says the discussion is important and will continue to change once the numbers come in.

"That'll allow us to get us a more better number about where we're out. My team can say, this is where we're at and the board can say we're comfortable with that, let's move forward with this," said Fulston City School District Superintendent Brian Pulvino.

The legislature is slated to present a budget April 1. The board of education will have another budget meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. to continue discussing their options.
