FULTON, N.Y. -- With a $2.5 million budget gap looming, leaders in the Fulton City School District are looking for ways to cut costs.

District officials held a Board of Education meeting Tuesday to talk about the issue before they get financial numbers from the state.

The state budget deadline is April 1.

While they wait, they are looking at all phases associated with the district, including enrollment and staffing figures. But depending on how much aid they receive, it could result in around 7 positions being lost to help reach their goal.

"You never want to go down a path where you're having to look at people on their jobs and things like that. One of our guiding principles here is to be fiscally responsible and also to ensure that our kids get high quality programming that they deserve,” said Superintendent Brian Pulvino.

A special budget workshop will be held Wednesday night.
