SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Watertown firefighter has been released from the hospital after he was injured more than a month ago battling a fire.

TJ Kolb was injured while fighting a fire on Newell Street back on February 19.

A section of the building collapsed.

Kolb had to undergo several hours of surgery after suffering from hip and other internal injuries.

Kolb was greeted by Syracuse firefighters as he was escorted out of the hospital by his family and hospital staff.

He said the support he has received since the beginning has helped through recovery.

"It really does help the healing, it really does," said Kolb. "Because, it lets you know, you know what, we do this so much for so many strangers, and now we have to take care of our own, and unfortunately, I'm the one they're taking care of right now but it definitely helps the healing process."

Kolb's wife Andrea says TJ has been a firefighter for 24 years.

Another firefighter was injured in the same fire and was treated and released from Samaritan Medical Center the next day.
