BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Multiple sources are reporting that Tim Tebow is set to start his baseball season in Binghamton next week with the Rumble Ponies.

The former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback signed with the New York Mets organization in September of 2016. His promotion could mark another step in his quest to the majors after beginning his career with Class A Port Saint Lucie (Fla.).

While the Mets haven't made the decision official, members of the Rumble Ponies front office remain hopeful.

"It would be great for Mr. Tebow. We would treat him just like any other player," said Rumble Ponies Assistant General Manager John "JB" Bayne. "It's an honor for the Mets to entrust us with their prospects, and we would certainly treat him and hope he got to the major leagues like the rest of our players."

The Rumble Ponies open the season at home against the Portland Sea Dogs next Thursday, April 5 at 6:35 p.m.
