Trucks, noise, pollution. A proposed mining operation is digging into some Oswego county residents.

"Are you kidding me?!" said a resident at a Thursday night Schroeppel town board public hearing.

People living near Pleasant Lake in the Town of Schroeppel have been through this before. Once again they are not reacting well to the idea of a sand and gravel mining operation.

"You must, you must, you must protect this most natural resource," the resident said.

A.J. Montclair Inc. is looking to rezone its property along County Route 12 for the second time. Currently it owns a parcel of land zoned as residential and they're looking to make it industrial.

"There's some benefits to mining besides producing a material that everyone uses in the area, besides creating jobs in the area. It's a need," said developer Alan Montclair.

Thursday night, the Schroeppel town board held a public hearing. Members from the nearby Lake Pleasant Association didn't hold back.

Residents worried about potential water contamination, noise pollution and a decrease in property value.

"It literally backs up to people's back yards on Route 12 and it's only 200 yards from the lake so it's very impactful," said Pleasant Lake Association President Mary Hettler.

In 2011, Montclair's request was rejected. Members of the association are hoping for the same outcome.

"We love the place we live and we don't want it spoiled by a mining operation," said Hettler.

Currently, the town board has no schedule for a final decision.
