After weeks of public outcry over abuse, neglect and understaffing allegations, leaders at Van Duyn nursing facility have hired an interim administrator.

The center's COO said Dan Detor was appointed Thursday, bringing with him 20-years of nursing home administration experience.

In the meantime, leaders have launched a search for a permanent administrator, which could take several months.

In a statement, the facility said, “Van Duyn is deeply troubled by recent patient satisfaction complaints at our rehabilitation and nursing facility. These complaints do not reflect our standards and values and counter our mission of an unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of each resident and family member.”

On Monday, nearly 20 people attended a public meeting, many of who were worried about the health and safety of their loved ones at the center.

The event organizer, Pastor Daren Jaime encouraged attendees to fill out a formal complaint at the meeting.

Pastor Jaime's hope is to compile a list and bring it to the Department of Health and the Attorney General in an effort to expedite action.
