UTICA, N.Y. -- With the snow still flying the need for salt continues on the roads.

In Utica, the city has gone through what it allotted for salt.

The Utica Department of Public Works budgeted for $450,000 worth of salt.

Already officials have surpassed that number by about $53,000.

The Commissioner will now have to balance the books.

He hopes they have enough salt to last until the next budget starts.

"I'm hoping at this point with what salt I have and what salt I have yet to come in will cover me," said Commissioner Dave Short. "I think the long range forecast they're showing snow for the middle of next week again. You know, we'll roll the dice and see what happens."

The salt budget decreased by $30,000 in next year's proposed city budget.
